The risks of freezing are unique and so are the solutions. It is not the movement of water that prevents ice from forming. Freezing in a pipe creates a lot of pressure inside the pipe and can cause the pipe to burst and likely lead to serious flooding especially when there s no one around to turn off the water. To keep them insulated choose one of these two installation methods.

Keeping drain lines draining. The best prevention against frozen pipes is to keep them warm enough to stay above the freezing point. Cold temperatures can cause water pipes to freeze. With a trickling faucet water with residual heat is kept flowing through the pipes.

If it is freezing outside and you do not have heat inside overnight flowing water can keep your pipes from freezing. Specialty insulation meant for underground water lines will prevent pipes from freezing. When water freezes in your pipes whether due to quick drops in outside temperatures poor insulation or the thermostat set too low its volume expands and puts pressure on the pipe from inside. Both situations rely on electric heating cables but the similarities end there.

The ground is warmer below the frost line. Even underground water pipes can freeze. Wire tie wire would be used to hold it in place. It is the heat that the water has in it which is picked up underground.

When it comes to keeping pipes from freezing water supplies and drain lines are two different animals. It would be carefully wrapped around the water line with 2 or 3 layers of insulation.
